Sina Kheiri
Dr. Sina Kheiri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at McGill University. He received his MASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto, where he developed microfluidic approaches for studying cancer spheroids and tumor biology.
He completed postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow, where he worked with the Kamm Lab, Raman Lab, and Narrative Engineering Program. His postdoctoral research brought together microphysiological systems, vascular biology, and cancer research to develop more predictive and human-relevant biomedical models.
Dr. Kheiri’s research uses engineering tools to answer biological and clinical questions. His lab develops vascularized, sex-aware microphysiological systems to model disease, investigate tumor microenvironment dynamics, and study cancer progression and treatment response. By combining microfluidics, tissue engineering, mechanobiology, and computational modeling, his group aims to build more human-relevant platforms for cancer research, with particular interest in solid tumors and upper gastrointestinal cancers.
Outside the lab, Dr. Kheiri enjoys following sports and cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors.
